Talk or Type? Using Your Voice With AI
Wonderfully AI · Updated 24 October 2026
Did you know that you may be able to speak to an AI assistant instead of typing?
For some people, talking feels more natural. For others, typing provides time to think.
There's no correct choice.
Two different ways to speak
Keyboard dictation turns your spoken words into written text. You can review the text before sending it.
Voice conversation lets you speak with an AI assistant and, in supported apps, hear spoken replies.
These features aren't identical, and their availability depends on your app, device and plan.
What could you try?
You might practise introducing yourself at a networking event, explore a new language or talk through an idea for a family celebration.
A lovely first request is:
I'm practising using voice with AI. Please ask me one friendly question at a time and keep your replies short.
If voice conversation isn't available, try your keyboard microphone or simply type.
A few helpful habits
Speak naturally. You don't need perfect wording.
Ask the assistant to slow down or explain something again.
Check important details in writing, especially names, numbers, dates and instructions.
And before discussing sensitive matters, review how your chosen app handles voice recordings and transcripts.
Your voice, your choice
The purpose isn't to replace human conversation. It's to give you another comfortable way to explore ideas and learn.
Whether you type, talk or switch between the two, you're still leading the conversation.
